ElkSpotter PA ("we", "us", or "the app") is a community platform for sharing and discovering wild elk sightings across Pennsylvania. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the app, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
- Sighting reports you submit: the photo or video clip you upload, your device's GPS location (or the location embedded in the file), the date and time of the sighting, and any optional notes or reporter name you choose to add.
- Account information: your email address and a display name when you create an account or sign in with Google or Apple.
- Device permissions: with your consent, the app accesses your camera, photo library, and location services solely to help you capture and submit sightings. You can revoke these permissions at any time from your device settings.
How your information is used
- Sightings are 100% public and displayed on the shared map for the whole community.
- Community members can confirm whether elk are still present at a reported location.
- Your email is used for account access and, if you opt in, to send sighting alerts.
Third-party services
We use third-party services to operate the app, including map tiles from OpenStreetMap, file storage for uploaded media, and email delivery. These providers may process limited data as needed to provide their services. Sign-in with Google and Apple are handled by those providers under their own policies.
Data retention
Public sightings remain on the map to build a historical record of activity. You may request removal of a sighting you submitted by contacting us through the in-app Contact page.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices
- Manage location, notification, and display preferences from the in-app Settings page.
- Adjust device permissions (camera, location, photos) in your device's system settings.
- Request deletion of your account or submitted content via the Contact page.
